When I first heard about a 12-week course called Family-to-Family for relatives of people with serious mental illness, I wasn't sure I wanted to take it.
NAMI Washington will hold its seventh annual awareness and fund-raising walk in Kirkland’s Marina Park May 14.
The state organization of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and its 22 affiliates provide education, support and advocacy for individuals living with mental illness and their families. NAMI is a chief advocate for mental health services and treatment programs.
Nearly 150 NAMI Walk supporters, many of whom were interested in being team captains, attended kickoff rallies last month, looking forward to the 7th annual NAMI Washington awareness and fund-raising walk May 14 at Kirkland’s Marina Park.
The dedicated efforts of well over 100 captains asked to build teams and urge attendance at the Walk is key to a successful event, they were told.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a new concept to help non-clinical staff, family members, consumers and the public better understand and assess people they come in contact with who may benefit from some type of mental health intervention.
Says a Seattle Times editorial: "The half-dozen bills, now on Gov. Jay Inslee’s desk, will ease crisis-level access to inpatient psychiatric care, reduce untenable delays for mentally ill patients awaiting trial and give school staff better training to spot suicidal students." READ MORE
